Agus anois tá cuidiú a dhíobháil orm arís, más féidir, mar nach bhfuil ainmneacha na n-iascairí seo a thaifead Ciarán Mac Mathúna i gceantar na hEachléime i nGaeltacht Mhaigh Eo sa bhliain naoi déag caoga seacht agam.

And now I need your help again, if possible, because I do not have the names of these fishermen whom Ciarán Mac Mathúna recorded in the Eachléim area in the Mayo Gaeltacht in the year nineteen fifty-seven.

In amanta tig mé trasna ar théipeanna nach bhfuil aon eolas leofa ach tá eolas de chineál inteacht le bunús an ábhair a thaifead Ciarán i gContae Mhaigh Eo ach leis an taifead seo cé go gcuireann Ciarán an cheist cén t-ainm atá ort ní thig liom na freagraí a dhéanamh amach agus sílim gur Pádraig Ó Muimhneacháin atá ar fhear acu.

Sometimes I come across tapes that have no information with them but there is some kind of information about the origin of the material that Ciarán recorded in County Mayo, but with this recording, even though Ciarán asks the question what is your name, I can't make out the answers and I think that one of the men is called Pádraig Ó Muimhneacháin.

Agus tá an comhrá seo suimiúil sa mhéid is gurbh fhannadh caint ar an Ghaeilge agus an Ghaeltacht fhéin nuair a chuaigh lucht Raidió Éireann ag saothrú i ngort na Gaeltachta don chéad uair, mar a déarfá, ach tá caint anseo faoi fhiúntas na Gaeilge agus na Gaeltachta i dtaca le fostaíocht dó.

And this conversation is interesting in that there was little talk about Irish and the Gaeltacht itself when the people of Radio Éireann first went working in the Gaeltacht area, so to speak, but here there is talk about the value of Irish and the Gaeltacht in relation to employment for him.
