Anois chuala sibh muid ag caint cheana ar an gclár seo faoi na ranganna Gaeilge atá á reachtáil faoi choimirce an Choiste Gairmoideachais in Áras Turas siar ag Pádraic Ó Murchú.

Now you have already heard us talking on this program about the Irish classes being held under the auspices of the Vocational Education Committee in Áras Turas siar by Pádraic Ó Murchú.

Thug mé cuairt ar na ranganna seo aréir go bhfeicfinn cén chaoi a raibh ag éirí leo.

I visited these classes last night to see how they were getting on.

Agus cé gur ranganna Gaeilge atá i gceist, is é an rud a chuir sé i gcuimhne dhom ná oíche airneáin don seandéanamh agus ithe airneáin chomh breá agus d'fhreastail, d'fhreastail mé air le fada an lá. D'fhreastail mé aréir air thiar ag turas siar. Bhí siad ann idir shean agus óg, cainteoirí dúchais agus foghlaimeoirí, múinteoirí agus daltaí, daoine a raibh fonn orthu a bheith ag roinnt agus daoine a raibh fonn orthu a bheith ag cruinniú agus ina measc roinnt de na daoine atá ag obair leis an gColáiste Gaeilge UISCE.

And although it is Irish classes that are involved, what it reminded me of was an old-style social evening and a fine feast, and I attended, I have attended it for a long time. I attended it last night out west on a trip back. They were there, both old and young, native speakers and learners, teachers and students, people who wanted to share and people who wanted to gather, and among them some of the people who work with the UISCE Irish College.

Sular d'fhág mé aréir iad chuir siad in aithne iad féin dhom agus d'inis siad dhom cén tairbhe atá siad a bhaint as na hoícheanta seo i doras siar.

Before I left them last night, they introduced themselves to me and told me what benefit they get from these nights at the back door.
