Tá, tháinig go leor, tá go leor ag teacht isteach ón nGearmáin mar rinne iarlann Jurnal, rinne siad píosa mór ar rinne siad seacht leathanach ar an iris sin agus sa nGearmáinis agus thóg siad píosaí ón CD Ram agus píosaí ó irisí eile a bhí as an áit seo agus scéalta agus ó leabhair mhuintir Dhún Chaocháin. Labhraigí feasta píosaí astu sin agus d'fhág siad na logainmneacha i nGaeilge i gcónaí agus bhí go leor suim ag Gearmánaigh agus na daoiní a cheannaíonn an an iris an Journal. Chuir siad go leor, chuir siad go leor orduithe isteach agus chuir muid amach iad go dtí an nGearmáin agus tá siad imithe go dtí an Astráil agus go Meiriceá agus

Yes, many came, many are coming in from Germany because the Journal library did, they did a big piece, they did seven pages in that magazine and in German and they took pieces from the CD Ram and pieces from other magazines that were from this place and stories and from the books of the people of Dún Chaocháin. They spoke pieces from those and they always left the place names in Irish and there was a lot of interest from Germans and the people who buy the Journal magazine. They put in a lot, they put in a lot of orders and we sent them out to Germany and they have gone to Australia and to America and.

Bhuel, cinnte anois tá baint agat leis an gComharchumann anseo i gCara faidh an bhfuil eolas agat ar na haidhmeanna atá acu sin don bhliain seo.

Well, certainly now you are involved with the Co-operative here in Cara, so do you have information about the aims they have for this year?

Bhuel maidir leis le plean forbartha anois na seanscoile tá tá sé sin i gcineáilte faoi láthair agus tá dúil againn cur leis agus tá dúil againn go gcuideoidh an Roinn Ealaíona, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta le haghaidh airgeadú agus beidh muid in ann an táirgeadh áitiúil atá muid a fháil ar an CD, RAM a chur leis le cultúrlann beag a bheith againn agus seomra úr le haghaidh naíonra a thógáil chomh maith agus b'fhéidir siopa beag ceirde agus go mór mhór.

Well, regarding the development plan now for the old school, that is kind of ongoing at the moment and we hope to add to it and we hope that the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will help with funding and we will be able to add the local production that we have on the CD, RAM, to have a small cultural center and to build a new room for the playschool as well and maybe a small craft shop and especially...

siúlóidí na háite chomh maith a chur chun cinn agus

to promote the local walks as well.

Tá dhá cheann de na siúlóidí anois istigh faoi plean siúlóidí Iorrais agus beidh siad sin dhá dtreoirmharcáil agus beidh árachas orthu agus 'chuile shórt mar sin agus beidh muid in ann tá 'chuile shórt agus tá leabhrán siúlóidí Dhún Caocháin amuigh cheana féin a bhfuil ag tabhairt an-aitheantas don áit agus arís.

Two of the walks are now included under the Erris walking plan and those will be waymarked and insured and all that sort of thing and we’ll be able to do everything and the Dún Caocháin walking booklet is already out which is giving great recognition to the place and again...

Cinnte tá sárobair á dhéanamh ag Comharchumann Dún Chaocháin agus go n-éirí leofa anois ba ba mhaith liom labhairt fút féin go pearsanta cén áit go díreach ar tháinig an suim sna mapaí.

Certainly, excellent work is being done by the Dún Chaocháin Co-operative and may they succeed now but I would like to speak about yourself personally—where exactly did the interest in maps come from?

Unconfirmed

Bhoil. Ó bhí mise a' gabháil na scoile. Bhí an-suim i gcónaí i mapaí na hEorpa agus na na Meiriceá agus an chaoi ar tháinig an domhan le chéile agus an chaoi ar bhris sé suas agus ar an gcaoi sin ba bhí bhí suim agam i gcónaí i gcúl mo chéim faoi ghnaithí logainmneacha agus cén chaoi a mbeifeá in ann iad a mharcáil isteach. Now bhí muid i gcónaí agus bíonn daoiní a' rá tá a fhios againn cén áit iad na na príomhchathracha ar fud an domhain agus bhí sé mar mar mar an t-aos óg chomh maith bhí fhios acu faoi níos mó faoi Cornation Street ná a bhí fhios acu faoi áiteachaí thimpeall baile agus tá bhí saibhreas mór oidhreachta thart inár dtimpeall agus ba shin é an chaoi i gcónaí go mba mhaith liom a rá go raibh mapa in ann rud a thaispeáint le áit ar bith a dteastaíonn uait a dhul ná meas ar an mbóthar é ná in áit ar bith eile caithfidh tú mapa a piocadh suas go bhfeicfidh tú cén áit a bhfuil mé.

Well. Since I was going to school. I always had a great interest in the maps of Europe and America and how the world came together and how it broke up and in that way I always had an interest in the background of my studies in the habits of place names and how you would be able to mark them in. Now we always were, and people say, we know where the capitals are all over the world and it was like that, the young people as well, they knew more about Coronation Street than they knew about places around the town and there is a great wealth of heritage around us and that was always the way, so I would like to say that a map can show something, wherever you want to go, whether it’s on the road or anywhere else, you have to pick up a map to see where I am.
